The Magic Band - 6 Meters
If I needed to be reminded why 6 meters is called the magic band, it happened yesterday. After a long day I walked into the shack and fired up the radios and computer, and saw a 6 meter spot on the DxCluster. I thought, lets take a listen, and sure enough I hear a station from Oklahoma, at about S5. Gave him a shout and he came right back. Ok, so I worked 6. No big deal for me. I then walked into the Kitchen to explain a bit about the "Magic Band" to my wife KB1PXR. As I'm explaining, it dawns on me, that she can work 6 meters. So with a little prodding we head to the radio and I sit her down and quickly go over how to operate the rig and some basics such as our grid square. Well she sat down keyed up and made a quick contact with another Connecticut station, as Oklahoma was starting to fade. Have to keep an ear out on six because you never know when its going to open!
