This past weekend I did get to a few radio related projects.
Firstly I moved the mobile antennas, placing the Sidekick on the left side of the vehicle and the dual band antenna on the right. The Sidekick is doing well with the mount in its present configuration. Lets just say the locking bolt is locked down very well and the only flexing is between the mount and trunk, so I am in good shape based on my experience with the other car.
I had a short QSO on 40 meters on Wednesday afternoon while waiting for my wife's class to attend. I asked for a signal report and the reply was, " I can't give you a signal report as the S-meter isn't moving, but you sound terrific, don't touch a thing!".
I also had a chance to listen around on 60 meters from the mobile, looking forward to operating a bit more on that band.
Only one problem cropped up and this is more vehicle related than radio gear related. My Automatic Power Off switch shut down my gear while mobile the other day, due to voltage dropping below 12.8V. The wide swings in the car make it a little more difficult to set a cut-off voltage than normal. I tried 12.1V but then the APRS station beaconed for 2 1/2 hours after I shut the car down. Nov I'm back to the 12.8V setting and so far so good!
