Noaaport Update

I just realized I haven't posted an update on the Noaaport system since the spring. Just writing that word makes me feel warm on this very cold 16 degree night! The 12 ft dish is up and running and has been since June 2010. A combination of things that were bothering me from the RF side of the system seems to have been worked out. The first one that came to light was on a lark I cranked the tower down and seemed to get a bit more signal into the Noaaport server. It appears I may have just been shooting through the HF beam but I won't be 100% sure until I get the tower up again in the spring. With all the snow we have here in Connecticut that could be May! The other thing that seemed to be fixed with a problem at the uplink that was resolved in December 2010. Signal is much improved and only seems to be a big problem when the dish fills up with snow.

I McGyver'd a feed cover as well using the shrink wrap that boats are wrapped in. This is working very well on both the Noaaport and FTA downlink dishes.
