Well it looks like the Hot-Rodz are not going to work on my vehicle. Even with two springs attached, the mount loosened up the other night on the way home and the antenna flopped over, luckily just as I was pulling through a toll booth. I am now using the Sidekick mounted directly the antenna mount with out springs and the stock whip, which for the most part worked fairly well on the last vehicle.
Given that I go through cars about every 5 years drilling into the car to mount an antenna is not a very attractive alternative. I think these antennas are more suited for those that drive trucks than sedans.
Not too much to report this morning. I haven't really had a chance to operate in the shack the last few days, between work and family commitments. I did tune up the HF mobile the other morning on the ride home, and conditions were horrible. Traffic permitting, maybe I'll take a listen this morning on the way home.
40 meters sure has a lot of nets in the morning, at least during my commuting hours. I don't know if I have ever heard anyone calling CQ between 12 and 1400 UTC. Being mobile I usually don't call CQ myself, since I am using compromised antennas on the car.
Time permitting this weekend, I'll finish up my re-wiring project in the shack, and try and get some pictures posted.
