HF Mobile Adventures

Along with the usual VHF/UHF rig in the car I also have HF for the long ride back and forth to work. Its been a bit of a battle getting things installed in the new car, (ok maybe not so new anymore at 53,000 miles!).

Slowly but surely things are looking up. Lots of listening and I even made one QSO on 17 meters into New Mexico from Connecticut.

My High Sierra Sidekick is working well and I finally got things worked out with the Turbo Tuner, so just push of a button and the antenna is tuned. Speaking of the Turbo Tuner, I had to do a slight modification. Turns out the tuner port on the IC-706 MKII is not powering the Turbo Tuner. I ran two leads from the Turbo Tuner and have it powered through my West Mountain Radio Rigrunner . Last step if the weather cooperates this week will be to install some new ground straps from the mount and 706 to the body of the car, along with my DX Engineering HotRodz Capacitance Hat and whip, and I should be off and running.
