The TNC that I use for APRS stopped working last year after about 15 years of daily use. In a pinch I put my D-700 dual band radio online as my weather data is fed through APRS to CWOP. I have a bunch of tnc's left over from running packet nodes but all have FlexNet chips in them and without putting the original chips back into those tnc's they are not much use as a standalone unit. I came across the TNC-X a few months ago and it look perfect for my APRS setup. Small, low power consumption (if you choose to use the usb port on the back that will power the unit) and easy to setup. Well easy is an understatement! Once I gathered the cables I needed it took all of 10 minutes to put the TNC-X online. Works great! If you are looking for a simple stand alone tnc for fixed or portable use this may fit your requirements! A very happy customer !
